American entrepreneur and owner of the social network X (formerly Twitter) Elon Musk plans to charge new users of the platform a fee for posting messages. This is reported by Tech Crunch.
New users will be able to post messages without paying a fee three months after creating an account.
According to Musk, charging a small fee for new accounts is the only way to stop the influx of bots. “Current artificial intelligence and troll farms can easily pass the check to see if you are a bot,” he noted.
In October last year, the social network X began charging new unverified users $ 1 per year in New Zealand and the Philippines.
New free users who registered on the platform from these regions could read posts, but could not interact with them. To post content, like, repost, reply, bookmark, and quote posts, they had to pay for it.
As a reminder, social network X has still not been able to attract content creators, despite significant efforts. Elon Musk’s X lags far behind platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Meta Platforms’ Instagram.
